VICKSBURG, Miss. (AP) - Water has been restored throughout the city of Vicksburg but tens of thousands are still under a citywide boil water notice because a storm had knocked out power to the city’s water wells.

Vicksburg Chief of Public Affairs Greg Raimondo said in a statement that the water was restored Wednesday morning. The city had issued a boil water notice overnight Monday, after storms damaged power lines serving the city’s water wells.

City Public Works Director Garnet Van Norman says a boil water notice remains in effect, but city officials may be able to lift the boil water notice sometime this weekend.

Officials say water samples must first pass testing by the Mississippi Department of Health before the boil water notice can be lifted.
