LAS VEGAS (AP) - A new person will soon take the hefty job of overseeing Clark County’s budget, McCarran International Airport and University Medical Center.

The Clark County Commission voted unanimously Tuesday to appoint Yolanda King as the next county manager. She’ll take over for Don Burnette, who’s held the position since 2011 and announced last month that he will be stepping down.

The Las Vegas Review-Journal reports that King is expected to fully assume the new role after the November election.

King started her career with the county in 1986 and now serves as assistant county manager and chief financial officer. She has a degree in accounting and a master of business administration.

The Las Vegas Sun reports the county manager job is widely considered the most powerful appointed position in southern Nevada.
