BALTIMORE (AP) - The Baltimore County Public Schools superintendent is resigning.

The Baltimore Sun reports (http://bsun.md/2opJHwJ ) Superintendent Dallas Dance announced his resignation abruptly Tuesday morning, giving no reason for his departure.

His last day will be June 30.

Dance says he hasn’t decided what is next but will share more in the coming weeks.

According to the newspaper, Dance was in the first year of his second contract with the school system - a four-year agreement paying him $287,000 annually. The school system is the third-largest in Maryland.

School board president Edward Gilliss says the district will probably have to look for an interim superintendent because state law requires superintendents have contracts that begin on July 1. Gilliss doesn’t think a permanent replacement can be found in time.
