SANTA ANA, Calif. (AP) - Police say a man in Southern California attempted several bank robberies in one day before being tracked down by authorities.

The Orange County Register reports (https://bit.ly/2luyREX ) that police say the 29-year-old started by robbing a bank on Saturday. On Monday, authorities say he robbed a bank in Santa Ana and unsuccessfully tried to rob four others in Orange County.

Santa Ana Police Department Cpl. Anthony Bertagna says the man was caught when a bank he tried to rob Monday afternoon gave him money containing a hidden tracking device. Police were able to follow the man to the back of a restaurant before he ditched the tracking device and fled.

Bertagna says officers found the man walking in the city and arrested him after a brief chase.
