SANTA ROSA, Calif. (AP) - Santa Rosa police say a man detained for drug possession has been arrested on suspicion of killing his father and estranged wife, who had secured a restraining order against him a week earlier.

The Santa Rosa Press Democrat (http://bit.ly/2lQwflN) reports Monday that 32-year-old Dalton Carlson is being held at the Sonoma County jail since Friday, when officers found him armed with a hammer, knife and ammunition outside the home of his estranged wife.

The body of 37-year-old Jessica Carlson was found Saturday in her kitchen. Hours earlier, police found 57-year-old Dale Carlson dead on home across town.

Santa Rosa Sgt. Josh Ludtke says the trauma on the bodies was so extensive that pathologists couldn’t immediately determine how either was killed. He says a gun appeared to have been fired in at least one of the homes.

He says detectives are still investigating a motive in the killings.
