TAMWORTH, N.H. (AP) - The recent warm weather has forced the cancellation of a popular dog sled and skijor race in New Hampshire.

The Tamworth Sled & Skijor Race was originally scheduled for late January and then postponed to March 4-5. But organizers say with just a thin layer of ice on Lake Chocorua, conditions aren’t safe and they’re canceling this year’s event.

As many as 70 teams typically compete in the race, which was first run in 1937. It includes both traditional dog sled races and skijorking, where dogs pull a cross-country skier.
