SAN DIEGO (AP) - Police say a homicide and kidnapping suspect has been hospitalized after officers shot him during a foot chase in San Diego.

The Los Angeles Times reports (http://lat.ms/2k7bggo ) that police say the 35-year-old is suspected of shooting and killing 49-year-old Douglas Navarro during a dispute at a motel in Anaheim, then forcing a woman into his car at gunpoint.

Anaheim Sgt. Daron Wyatt says officers think the suspect and kidnapping victim had a romantic relationship at some point and that the woman was being held against her will.

Wyatt says detectives learned late Wednesday that the woman was in San Diego. Their investigation led them to a motel, where they saw the suspect arriving and chased him.

He has been hospitalized and is in unknown condition.
