SPOKANE, Wash. (AP) - Catholic Bishop Thomas Daly of the Spokane Diocese is adding his voice to those concerned about President Donald Trump’s recent executive order temporarily suspending refugee admissions to the United States.

Daly issued a statement Monday saying the order impacts innocent people fleeing to the safety of America.

Daly says he believes refugees from war can be welcomed to our country without compromising safety and security.

The Spokesman-Review says Daly joins Cardinal Blase Cupich, former Bishop of Spokane, who criticized Trump’s order in a statement released over the weekend.

Trump signed an executive order Friday that bans legal U.S. residents and visa-holders from seven Muslim-majority nations from entering the U.S. for 90 days and puts an indefinite hold on a program resettling Syrian refugees.
