ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) - A trial is underway for an upstate New York man charged in the deaths of two people who were riding with him when he crashed while allegedly driving 150 mph on the Thruway near Albany.

Opening statements were made Tuesday in an Albany court for the trial of 27-year-old Tyler Pascuzzi of Albany. The charges against him include aggravated vehicular homicide, manslaughter, vehicular manslaughter and aggravated driving while intoxicated.

State police say Pascuzzi’s blood alcohol level was more than twice the legal limit when he crashed his Volkswagen into another car and a tractor-trailer on Interstate 90 in Guilderland on July 4, 2014.

The crash killed his two passengers, 24-year-old Alicia Tamboia, of Wingdale in Dutchess County, and 23-year-old Cody Veverka, of Cairo in Greene County.
