CRESTVIEW, Fla. (AP) - A Florida inmate has died from what the state Department of Corrections says were injuries sustained in a fight with another inmate.

The death of 35-year-old Raymond P. Scholtes is under investigation by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement, with assistance from the DOC’s Office of the Inspector General.

The DOC said Wednesday that Scholtes died July 9, following an altercation. He was in the Okaloosa Correctional Institution when the altercation happened.

Scholtes had been convicted of robbery and aggravated battery on a person over 65 in September 2007.
