ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) - The city of Orlando is looking for its bard.

City officials on Wednesday announced that Orlando is seeking to appoint its first poet laureate.

Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer says the poet laureate will present original works of poetry at official city events and serve as the city’s official storyteller.

Applicants interested in the position can apply through August 7, and a committee of professors, local poets and representatives of local arts groups will select the winner.

In recent years, other cities have established positions for poet laureates, including Los Angeles, Houston and Boise, Idaho.
