SUNIZONA, Ariz. (AP) - Chiricahua National Monument is open again after being closed because of a nearby southeastern Arizona wildfire.

Officials said the monument was closed Wednesday a precaution, but an announcement Thursday on the monument’s Facebook page says the park was open “but could be evacuated on short notice if fire conditions change.”

The fire was 10 percent contained Thursday. It has been fanned by gusty winds and burned 3.3 square miles (8.5 sq. kilometers) of grass and brush.

Cause of the fire is under investigation. It was reported Tuesday night about 15 miles (24.1 kilometers) northeast of Sunizona, a small rural community.

The fire started on state lands and has since moved onto the Coronado National Forest.

Approximately 255 personnel and nearly a dozen aircraft have been involved with fighting the fire.
