TYLER, Texas (AP) - Two people are dead after a twin-engine plane crashed into a pasture shortly after taking off from an East Texas airport.

Tyler police spokesman Don Martin says the plane went down Thursday morning within a mile from city-owned Tyler Pounds Regional Airport.

The pilot and a passenger, the only two aboard, died at the scene and authorities have not released their identities.

Martin says one of the victims was from the Tyler area.

He declined to say where the plane was headed and said it’s too early to know the cause of the wreck.

The Texas Department of Public Safety and Federal Aviation Administration are involved in the investigation.
