SHREVEPORT, La. (AP) - Caddo Parish Public Schools is reevaluating a decision to close some elementary schools.

The Shreveport Times (https://bit.ly/2nqUrL8 ) reports Superintendent Lamar Goree Thursday recommended closing two elementary schools and a middle school.

But a Friday news release says Goree asked the board president to remove two of the schools - Atkins Elementary and Queensborough Elementary - from consideration for closure.

Goree said the proposal to consolidate the two schools was grounded in efforts to “provide additional academic opportunities to students.”

But he said before any decision can be made the community has a “much more work to be done to come together.”

The district represents 62 schools across the parish.
