COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) - Police in South Carolina say a 14-year-old boy has been charged in the shooting death of a 19-year-old.

A news release from the Columbia Police Department on Saturday said the shooting occurred shortly after 6 p.m. Friday.

Richland County Coroner Gary Watts identified the victim as 19-year-old Christopher Ladarren Simmons. Watts said Simmons died from multiple gunshot wounds.

Investigators arrested the 14-year-old and charged him with unlawful carrying of a pistol and unlawful possession of a firearm under the age of 18. The investigation into the shooting is continuing.
