WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. (AP) - A Westchester man is free after being found not guilty of murder in the 1996 slayings of a 79-year-old millionaire and his home health aide.

Tuesday’s verdict occurred on the second day of Selwyn Days’ fifth trial. He had been jailed since 2001, four years after police found the bodies of 79-year-old Archie Harris and 35-year-old Betty Ramcharan in Harris’ Eastchester home.

Prosecutors had argued that Days believed Harris had sexually abused his mother when she was Harris’ health aide and had sought revenge. Days confessed to the killings, but his lawyers said it was a false confession.

Hung juries ended Days’ first and third trials. His second and fourth trials resulted in murder convictions and he was sentenced to 50 years in jail. Both convictions were overturned.
