  • LETTER TO THE EDITOR: Schools should go vegetarian

    By - The Washington Times

Schools across the country should look to New York City elementary school P.S. 244's visionary, plant-based cafeteria not only to improve their students' test scores, attention and mental focus, but also to improve students' overall health and well-being ("Where's the beef? Bloomberg launches vegetarian-only school lunch," Web, May 1). Published May 2, 2013

  • LETTER TO THE EDITOR: Furlough shows Obama's true concerns

    By - The Washington Times

During the 2012 presidential campaign, President Obama promised to protect the middle class from the Republicans. He said he was the candidate of the "99 percent" while that evil Mitt Romney was the candidate of the 1 percent at the expense of everyone else. Unfortunately for us Americans, in the past few weeks, Mr. Obama has totally undermined this pledge, crushing the middle class to further his political standing. Published May 1, 2013

  • LETTER TO THE EDITOR: George W. Bush: A hero to Africa

    By - The Washington Times

I attended the dedication of the George W. Bush Presidential Library in Dallas last Thursday ("Emotional Bush at presidential library dedication: 'Our nation's best days lie ahead,'" Web, April 25). It was a profoundly moving event. The day was gloriously beautiful, the crowd of 10,000-plus was in a joyous mood, and the event itself was well-organized and went off without a hitch. I was happy to run into more than a few old friends and colleagues, including some I had not seen since Iraq in 2003 or 2004. Of course, the event was a "who's who" of former world leaders, state and local officials and mobs of former Bush administration officials, of which I proudly was one. Published May 1, 2013

  • LETTER TO THE EDITOR: Collins' sexuality makes him a hero?

    By - The Washington Times

NBA center Jason Collins is being hailed as a courageous trailblazer because he is the first professional basketball player to announce publicly that he is homosexual ("Jason Collins becomes first active openly gay NBA player," Web, April 29). President Obama and former President Bill Clinton called him personally to give their congratulations and support, and White House spokesman Jay Carney spoke glowingly of Mr. Collins' brave, bold decision to "come out." • LETTER TO THE EDITOR: Fear brings tyranny, loss of liberty

    By - The Washington Times

I would like to thank you for publishing Andrew P. Napolitano's column, "A pact with the devil in Boston" (Commentary, April 26). We need to be reminded clearly and strongly that surrendering our liberty does not bring safety, unless it is the safety of prison. Published April 30, 2013

  • LETTER TO THE EDITOR: Medicare gouging seniors

    By - The Washington Times

Retirees who have been extra good at saving for their golden years will pay billions in higher premiums for Medicare Part B and Part D. Published April 30, 2013

  • LETTER TO THE EDITOR: Paying to defend terrorist who hates us

    By - The Washington Times

Before civil libertarians and constitutional scholars all weigh in, let me say this: I firmly believe in the principle of innocent until proven guilty. Undoubtedly, it is one of the bedrock foundations that separates American justice and culture from many, if not most, other countries in the world. Published April 30, 2013

  • LETTER TO THE EDITOR: American lives not Obama's top priority

    By - The Washington Times

I was an interrogator in Vietnam and Cambodia during the Vietnam War. I believed my responsibilities were to save American lives. No one has ever been able to convince me that saving lives is not an achievable goal. Published April 30, 2013

  • LETTER TO THE EDITOR: Jihadists don't take oaths seriously

    By - The Washington Times

What really drives me crazy about the Obama administration not labeling the surviving Boston Marathon bomber an enemy combatant is that this administration always seems to bend over backwards to give these terrorists every advantage over us, even when they already have every advantage to kill innocent Americans. Published April 29, 2013

  • LETTER TO THE EDITOR: Misleading background-check data

    By - The Washington Times

I am amazed that the government survey of people in favor of firearms background checks (at a claimed 90 percent) is taken at face value. It was conducted by the "General Social Survey" at the University of Chicago. A key element of this survey is the number of people who own guns which, it claims, is going down. • LETTER TO THE EDITOR: Bipartisan spirit highlighted at library event

    By - The Washington Times

After reading "Emotional Bush at presidential library dedication: 'Our nation's best days lie ahead'" (Web, April 25), I was glad to see that the article highlighted former President George W. Bush's emotion during the dedication of his library Thursday. It was a fitting end to an important ceremony that ultimately is a celebration of our great democracy. Published April 29, 2013

  • LETTER TO THE EDITOR: Close call on dangerous arms treaty

    By - The Washington Times

We fought for freedom from European monarchs 200 years ago, but are coming perilously close to subjugating ourselves again to the authority of foreign powers. Recently, Sens. Tim Kaine and Mark R. Warner, Virginia Democrats, and Sens. Benjamin L. Cardin and Barbara A. Mikulski, Maryland Democrats, were among 46 senators who voted in a nonbinding test vote to enter into the U.N. Arms Trade Treaty. Published April 26, 2013

  • LETTER TO THE EDITOR: Maryland has its own Kermit Gosnell

    By - The Washington Times

Deborah Simmons rightly indicts the state of Pennsylvania for letting the house of horrors operated by abortionist Kermit Gosnell in Philadelphia continue for decades ("A doctor with a perverted view of life and death," Web, April 17). Published April 26, 2013

  • LETTER TO THE EDITOR: Family united on gun-control measure

    By - The Washington Times

As I sit here tonight with my two children, I am heartbroken and angry. Our Congress has failed to act to protect American families. Although an enormous percentage of Americans support background checks, Congress has rejected our call for reform. Recently, 45 senators voted against a bipartisan, expanded background-check legislation dubbed "the Manchin-Toomey bill" ("Leaks hurt gun-control bill, Sen. Pat Toomey says," Web, April 24). Published April 26, 2013

  • LETTER TO THE EDITOR: Weak border security will mean more attacks

    By - The Washington Times

I agree with former FBI counterterrorism agent John Guandolo that the Boston Marathon bombings are a continuation of a Muslim jihad against the United States ("Former FBI agent predicts more attacks in Muslim jihad," Web, April 21). That's why I think the gun-control issue and immigration-reform issue are oxymorons. At a time when our country is at war, this is certainly not a time to take the guns away from law-abiding, registered Americans. It was a homemade pressure-cooker bomb that caused the deaths and injures, not guns. Published April 25, 2013

  • LETTER TO THE EDITOR: Did Mrs. Clinton know about Tsarnaev?

    By - The Washington Times

In 2012, Boston Marathon bombing suspect Tamerlan Tsarnaev made a trip to Russia. Then, Russia sent the United States an alert about him. Anything going on between the United States and Russia would have at least generated a memo to the State Department. Certainly, a note containing the word "terror" and coming from Russia should have passed through the hands of the secretary of state. What did Hillary Rodham Clinton know about this, in that case? What did she do? And why has no one asked her? Published April 25, 2013

  • LETTER TO THE EDITOR: Citizenship easier than gun ownership

    By - The Washington Times

The Washington Times reports the Obama administration "has approved 99.5 percent of [illegal alien] applications" ("99.5% of illegal immigrants get approval for legal status; high number raises concerns about fraud," Web, April 22). Published April 25, 2013

  • Don't let paranoia legislate

    By - The Washington Times

Recently, I listened to gun-rights advocate Tina Wilson-Cohen, chairman of She Can Shoot, say the gun-violence measures currently before the Senate were reasonable, that she was in favor of background checks and that most gun owners were in favor of them. She also said that the problem with more background checks is that they fuel the paranoia of gun owners and certain members of Congress about a federal registry of gun owners. The word paranoia struck me. Published April 24, 2013

  • LETTER TO THE EDITOR: The petulant presidency

    By - The Washington Times

It appears that gun control has turned out to be a real whine-inducing issue for President Obama and the left. Despite the shameless use of the Newtown, Conn., parents as political props, the Manchin-Toomey gun-control bill was handily defeated, prompting a petulant Mr. Obama to lash out at his adversaries, flatly calling the Americans who opposed him liars. Ever the class act from this ever-shrinking presidency. Published April 24, 2013

  • LETTER TO THE EDITOR: Send Steinem to Saudi Arabia

    By - The Washington Times

Gloria Steinem has a veil over her eyes. She is obviously quite blind to life in Saudi Arabia and several other Middle Eastern countries ("Gloria Steinem compares U.S. 'reproductive freedom' limits to Saudi Arabian subjugation of women," Web, April 22). Having spent considerable time in Saudi Arabia in several cities and with Saudis there and in the United States, I can say it is inconceivable that any person with a modicum of grounding in reality or common sense could make such a statement as Ms. Steinem did.
