Photographs by Allison Shelley/The Washington Times Giao Phung, 24, a CVS pharmacist in Germantown, stands in the new laboratory at the School of Pharmacy at Howard University from where she graduated earlier this year from. The job of a pharmacist has changed drastically from only a few decades ago. Instead of simply counting out pills, pharmacists now regularly council patients on appropriate treatments, monitor patients prescription list for drug interactions and dispense Schedule V drugs. Pharmacists in Washington and some states are now allowed to dispense Schedule V drugs, such as this one (below) from behind the counter without a prescription.
