Colt McCoy, the backup's backup, 'in a great place' with Redskins

There is nothing deceptive in the way Colt McCoy presents himself. He's tall and lean with static blue eyes, and he gives thoughtful answers to the questions he is asked — a straight shooter in the parlance of Tuscola, Texas, where he first became a football star in high school. But when he says, "I'm in a great place," it makes you wonder if there's more than a bit of wishful thinking at work. Published June 10, 2014

PALLISTER: Looking ahead to 2014 fantasy football drafts

Evaluating the 12 players that should make up the first round of 2014 fantasy drafts. They won't all be drafted that high, but dependability is key to consistent success, and these dozen players are the most dependable fantasy options in a league that has become increasingly unpredictable. PALLISTER: When fantasy football frustration intrudes on real life

Sometimes, it's just not your year. Sometimes, no matter how much you follow the NFL and how much knowledge you soak up, it's difficult to win a game in which you have so little control. I thought about this Sunday as I was bemoaning my fantasy fate. Published December 5, 2013

PALLISTER: A Thanksgiving full of football is reality, not a fantasy

Thanksgiving has always been my favorite holiday because of food and football. But it's family that makes all the difference (when I'm not getting yelled at, and even sometimes when I am). It's family that makes this year so special, and it's family that makes me more thankful than ever. Published November 27, 2013

PALLISTER: This fantasy owner just can't quit you, Ray Rice

Ray Rice is one of "my guys." I was telling people early in his career that he was my favorite non-Bear to watch. He's a little guy who played big — smashing, spinning and straining his way to success. I was driving the bandwagon before there were any passengers, and I drafted accordingly. PALLISTER: Aaron Rodgers injury affects every fantasy football league

Just like the Packers' offense, fantasy owners with Rodgers on their team are going to experience a dip in production. Even with Rodgers having a "mediocre" year, it's unlikely the backup can fill the void. If you're lucky enough to have Tony Romo or Matthew Stafford, good drafting. If not, good luck trying to grab Case Keenum or Nick Foles off the waiver wire. Published November 7, 2013

PALLISTER: Fantasy football this week, in open letters

When I make a prediction only to watch it go horribly wrong, I feel, as I did Monday night, like a politician caught in a sex scandal. I feel the need to get in front of the news and explain myself in the hope that my constituents will continue to believe in me. Published October 3, 2013

PALLISTER: Fantasy, reality collide in RG3's strange start

The performance of Robert Griffin III in the first two weeks is what makes fantasy football so silly to many of those who don't play it and so frustrating to some of those who do (especially those who already have lost a matchup against him). Published September 19, 2013

PALLISTER: Fantasy drafts, football and family collide

Draft day is always memorable, and this year was the third straight in which I drafted as a generally respectable father type. As such — and especially since my wife is in all the same leagues — plans must be made with my son in mind. Published August 29, 2013

PALLISTER: Players to avoid in your fantasy football draft

With the great majority of fantasy drafts taking place in the next 10 days, consider this a public service. Here is my 10-Foot-Pole Team — eight players, in reverse order of rankings, I wouldn't (and you shouldn't) touch: Published August 22, 2013
