The International Criminal Court on Wednesday convicted a Congolese warlord of using child soldiers, a verdict hailed as a legal landmark in the fight against impunity for the world's most serious crimes.
LONDON A judge today sentenced four men he described as al Qaeda-inspired plotters to life in prison for trying to bomb London's transit system in July 2005, two weeks after suicide bombers killed 52 commuters.
"The prosecution has proved beyond reasonable doubt that Mr. Thomas Lubanga is guilty of the crimes of conscripting and enlisting children under the age of 15 years and using them to participate actively in hostilities," said Presiding Judge Adrian Fulford.
Judge Adrian Fulford told the jury of nine women and three men that he would accept 10-2 majority verdicts on the other two defendants, Manfo Kwaku Asiedu, 34, and Adel Yahya, 24.
