The New York Yankees third baseman spoke before Monday's opener against Boston, his first public comments since the Jan. 16 operation on his left hip.
The 37-year-old former All-Star third baseman is expected to be released from the hospital on Thursday and the anticipated time for a full recovery is six months. The Yankees signed free agent Kevin Youkilis this offseason to play third base while Rodriguez is out.
Alex Rodriguez had surgery on his left hip Wednesday and is expected to be sidelined until after the All-Star break.
While Rodriguez rebounded from right hip surgery in March 2009 to help the Yankees to their first World Series title since 2000, Dr. Bryan Kelly said recovery from his operation on A-Rod's left hip this month will be more complex if for no other reason than it receives more stress because Rodriguez is a right-handed hitter.
Kelly said last week that Rodriguez had a condition known as femoral acetabular impingement and it was caused by genes, not by steroids.
