    Jeff Halpern and Brooks Laich had a game-saving chance a — a two-on-none short-handed break in the second period. The Washington Capitals were trailing the Winnipeg Jets 2-1 at the time, but a goal in that situation could have turned the tide.

    Luongo, Canucks drop Thrashers, 3-1

    Roberto Luongo stopped 30 shots and the Vancouver Canucks set franchise records for road wins and points in a season, beating the Atlanta Thrashers 3-1 on Friday night.

    Columbus rides big 1st period to win over Atlanta

    Jonathan Sigalet and Mike Blunden scored 26 seconds apart in the first period and the Columbus Blue Jackets won their preseason opener under new coach Scott Arneil, 5-2 over the Atlanta Thrashers on Tuesday night.
