A new study finds America is one of the most fiscally irresponsible nations in the world, spending excessively on health care and defense while running up record government deficits.
Do you take pride in calling yourself a conservative, liberal or libertarian or using any other type of political label? If so, be forewarned: Your days are numbered. The thought police are out in full force, ready to sweep away this crime wave known as (gasp) political ideology.
Many innocent Americans have been harmed violently by illegal aliens. Also, the severe fiscal impact of illegal immigrant families is tremendous. Yet the Department of Justice is suing Arizona over the state's immigration law, which seeks to curb illegal immigration. This is the same department that refuses to take action against sanctuary cities, which harbor illegal immigrants and therefore encourage illegal immigration ("Justice: Sanctuary cities safe from law," Page 1, Thursday).
David M. Walker, president and chief executive officer of the Peter G. Peterson Foundation, says proposed legislation doesn't meet the standards for stimulus spending.
"If New Zealand can do it, the United States can do it, too," Mr. Walker said.
