    White House doubts need to halt all foreclosures

    A top White House adviser questioned the need Sunday for a blanket stoppage of all home foreclosures, even as pressure grows on the Obama administration to do something about mounting evidence that banks have used inaccurate documents to evict homeowners.

Douglas W. Elmendorf, director of the Congressional Budget Office, testified Wednesday to a House subcommittee. He made a pitch to add new staff to his stressed-out team, noting the work is so continuous that his computer technicians have a hard time finding a chance to update software.
