The Coast Guard was waiting for daylight to see if an Alaska storm had abated enough to allow flights over a drilling rig that had run aground in shallow water off a small island.
"We are doing whatever we can do to prepare," Ms. Singleton said.
Destin Singleton, a spokeswoman for a unified command center set up at an Anchorage hotel, said if the weather permitted, the Coast Guard planned to fly over the Kulluk to assess the drilling rig's condition and determine if it was leaking.
