Paul Kariya announced his retirement from the NHL on Wednesday after being unable to return from post-concussion symptoms that forced him to miss all of last season.

Free agent forward Paul Kariya will not play next season after being diagnosed with post-concussion syndrome.
Don Baizley said in a statement that the decision was reached after Kariya was examined by concussion specialist Dr. Mark Lovell.
