U.S. employers added 155,000 jobs in December, a steady gain that shows hiring held up during the tense negotiations to resolve the fiscal cliff.
Hiring slowed in October as employers faced more uncertainty over future economic growth. The Labor Department says the economy added 80,000 jobs last month, the fewest in four months and below September's revised total of 158,000. Still, the unemployment rate dipped to 9 percent.
Employers added 103,000 jobs in September, a modest burst of hiring after a sluggish summer.
