'Your papers, please' must never be heard in America

An internationally acclaimed South Sudanese hip-hop artist and peace activist says he was beaten and robbed by police while visiting his homeland to promote peace.

Pope Benedict XVI joined Buddhist monks, Islamic scholars, Yoruba leaders and a handful of agnostics in making a communal call for peace Thursday, insisting that religion must never be used as a pretext for war or terrorism.

On Saturday, the world's Christians will join in prayer and celebration of the birth of Jesus. For too many of them, this worshipful act will take place under the threat of imprisonment, torture or execution.
