An excerpt of "Barack Obama: The Story" by Washington Post associate editor David Maraniss appeared in Vanity Fair on Wednesday, offering details about the women the young Mr. Obama dated during his "existentialist stretch" as a student in New York.
It is called the Taranto Principle, and it is being employed by the Kultursmogists to blanket the country in a preposterosity: namely, that the Tea Partyers and the Occupy Wall Street crowd have much in common. So go ahead, loyal Democrats, and take up the occupiers' anger. Giving presidential voice to the occupiers' complaints will be a sure winner for President Obama in 2012.
There is an axiom that is adhered to by conservative journalists that explains at least some of what for liberals is this inexplicable election. It is the Taranto Principle. Coined by the inimitable James Taranto of the Wall Street Journal, the Taranto Principle encourages the worst in liberals by reporting politics with a slavish bias. The conservatives can do nothing right. The liberals can do nothing wrong, and besides, they are always more winsome, more intelligent and moreover, they have an aesthetic and philosophical side.
James Taranto, the very clever Wall Street Journal writer and editor of Opinion Journal.com, has a thesis regarding our political culture. He believes the liberals are victims of their own cultural hegemony. They say things that are quite inaccurate. Their inaccuracies are repeated by their intellectual lookalikes throughout the culture. They reread their inaccuracies and are roundly confirmed in their ignorance.
At State, he will have, if all goes well, Sen. Jean-Francois Kerry, who, as The Wall Street Journal's James Taranto has perceptively noted, served in Vietnam.
As James Taranto noted in the Wall Street Journal, the Supreme Court does not take kindly to such pranks.
