It was only fitting on a night when women received their due at the Country Music Hall of Fame that Reba McEntire would take a moment to give special thanks to fellow inductee Jean Shepard.

Ferlin Husky, a pioneering country music entertainer in the 1950s and early '60s known for hits like "Wings of a Dove" and "Gone," died Thursday. He was 85.

In what host Kix Brooks called a "bittersweet" moment, Reba McEntire joined Jean Shepard and Bobby Braddock as the latest inductees into The Country Music Hall of Fame on Tuesday morning. But country's reigning queen was at her father's side and couldn't make it to the celebration.
"And I'm just so sorry we didn't get to go see her," Miss Shepard said. "She was just a precious person always."
"I never really thought about being a pioneer," she said in an Associated Press interview in 2008. "I loved doing what I was doing."
