CANTON, Ohio (AP) — A police officer accused of killing his pregnant girlfriend and her nearly full-term fetus made his first court appearance yesterday and was ordered held on $5 million bond.
AKRON, Ohio (AP) — A body found at the end of a dayslong search for a woman nearly nine months pregnant is indeed hers, a medical examiner confirmed yesterday as investigators pieced together the case against the boyfriend accused of killing her.

CANTON, Ohio — A massive search ended in sadness yesterday when authorities announced they had found a body thought to be a pregnant woman who vanished from her home a week earlier. A police officer believed to be the father of the unborn child was arrested on two counts of murder.
Judge asked to hold Nifong in contempt
"It's been, at best, it's been very, very difficult," Mr. Davis said on NBC's "Today" show. "I don't believe I can really quantify what our family's feeling."
