Remember clapping? As in when a fashion designer puts on his runway finale and then takes a bow before an adoring crowd.
A flurry of assistants rushed to protect racks of clothes at New York Fashion Week from Saturday's sudden downpours _ perhaps as potent a reminder as any during these spring previews that seasons can be temperamental.
Once the clothing collections are nearly complete and the models who'll wear them have been chosen, it's time for designers to plan and test one other important part of the looks they present at New York Fashion Week: hair and makeup.

"I want a tote bag by Jaye Hersh that the celebrities are wearing; they're called market bags," says Claire, 17, who lives in Bronxville, N.Y. "It's more stylish than a backpack."
