'Your papers, please' must never be heard in America
Nothing was going to keep Eric and Faith DeVault from watching the Big 12 title game.
After one of his team's worst performances in years, Bill Self likened the Kansas team he put on the floor Wednesday night to ones fielded by Dr. James Naismith back when the school was playing games against the Topeka YMCA.
Thomas Robinson scored 21 points, Elijah Johnson added 15 and No. 13 Kansas never trailed in a 78-67 victory Saturday over second-ranked Ohio State, which had to play without star forward Jared Sullinger due to an injury.
On a chilly Sunday morning in October, 18 basketball players showed up to pursue a dream. The setting was an open tryout for the NBA Developmental League Champion Iowa Energy, the Wizards D-League affiliate, held on Oct. 16 at the Northern Virginia Sportsplex.
Kansas has added forward Kevin Young, a 6-foot-8 swingman who will be expected to contribute right away in the Jayhawks' rebuilding project.
"It means a lot being able to go out there and touch people's lives in different ways," he said.
"It's not the first time I've seen that, actually. There was a couple taking pictures in our gym one time and I walked through on accident," Young said. "I am glad they chose to come see us. I am glad we were allowed to be a part of their life like that."
