How the government's punishing of the exposure of official wrongdoing can linger for years

China confirmed this week it will sell a new 1,000-megawatt nuclear reactor to Pakistan that the United States says would violate Beijing's obligations under a nuclear supplier control group.

Pakistan's intelligence agency helped terrorists plan and conduct an attack on the U.S. Embassy in Kabul, Afghanistan, last week, Adm. Mike Mullen, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, said Thursday.

A missing Iranian nuclear scientist, who has sought refuge at a Pakistani Embassy office in Washington and who Iran claims was abducted, is free to return to his homeland, the State Department said Tuesday.
