San Francisco leaders say ads that started running on city buses on Monday are anti-Islamic, racist and denigrating to members of the Muslim community.

Some Americans feel like they live in a police state, others are discouraged by a sense of waning opportunity or flagging optimism. Do we have national malaise? Yes. It's called "federal government," suggests some new research.

King Abdullah of Saudi Arabia, in an effort to quiet criticism of Muslims in the U.S., is quietly looking into moving the ground zero mosque to a less controversial Manhattan location, according to news reports Sunday.

They will read the names, of course, the names of every victim who died in the Sept. 11 attacks. The bells will ring. And then that moment of unity will give way to division as activists hoist signs and march, some for and some against a planned mosque two blocks from ground zero.
A bus-ad campaign that seeks to offer resources to those considering leaving Islam already has stirred up controversy in Miami and New York, but its next city may create the most fireworks - Detroit, the U.S. metropolitan area with the heaviest concentration of Middle Easterners.
The ads only reflect what jihadists have done and said themselves, she said.

"City officials denounce our ads, but not the actual quotes from high-profile jihadists calling for holy war and genocide," she said, in the AP report. "Our new campaign focuses on how jihadists use the texts and teachings of Islam to justify violence and supremacism."
