    NHL switches Winter Classic to nighttime start

    The NHL is moving the Capitals-Penguins Winter Classic to a nighttime start to avoid predicted daytime rain in Pittsburgh.

    Winter Classic? To NHL, it's the Crosby Classic

    There was no stick-breaking by Sidney Crosby when his 25-game scoring streak ended one game short of the Winter Classic. To Crosby, the streak was good while it lasted, but he never had any expectations of threatening Wayne Gretzky's record 51-game run.

    Hockey takes goal shot with 'Winter Classic'

    Saturday afternoon's National Hockey League game between the Washington Capitals and Pittsburgh Penguins is officially known as Game No. 566 on this year's 1,230-game schedule — but this particular contest carries a lot more weight.

    Bondra leads Caps' alumni team vs. Pens' alumni

    Mario Lemieux will be joined by Hall of Famers Paul Coffey, Ron Francis, Bryan Trottier and Larry Murphy on the Pittsburgh Penguins' roster for a Winter Classic alumni game against the Washington Capitals on Dec. 31.

    Flyers upend Penguins, spoil new arena's debut

    Surprise starter Sergei Bobrovsky stopped 29 shots in his NHL debut, Danny Briere and Blair Betts scored the first two goals, and the Flyers spoiled the Pittsburgh Penguins' debut game in their new arena by winning 3-2 on Thursday night.
