Fantasy replaces reality in Obama's green economy

Republicans are poised to add a splash of color to the ranks of its officeholders in November's elections, challenging the notion that the party is a de facto white guys' club.

In Washington, where short-term political gain often morphs into long-term political pain, the breakthrough victories of President Obama and the Democrats in 2008 are coming back to haunt them in 2010.

The National Defense Authorization bill includes an amendment from Sen. Roland Burris that would strike language that bans nearly all abortions in military hospitals.
"Mainstreaming abortion on-base" by Cathy Cleaver Ruse (Commentary, Aug. 11) was an eye-opener, and I commend The Washington Times for publishing it.
Cathy Cleaver Ruse's Wednesday Commentary column, "Mainstreaming abortion on-base," shows an alarming disregard for the health and welfare of our military women, particularly for those serving abroad.
A spellbinding soundtrack of Chicago-style politicking is getting its world premiere as jurors at the trial of former Illinois Gov. Rod R. Blagojevich hear FBI tapes in which Mr. Blagojevich grows increasingly frustrated over efforts to make a deal for the Senate seat Barack Obama vacated after being elected president.

Three months after abortion nearly derailed President Obama's health care bill, the hot-button issue is back before Congress with an amendment to the Senate's defense policy bill that would end the military's long-established ban on allowing abortions in its overseas hospitals.
"I feel it is critical that we ensure our men and women in uniform have access to the highest quality of health care while they are serving overseas," Mr. Burris said. "This legislation simply removes a decades-old ban, allowing doctors to offer services and freeing American servicewomen to receive the medical attention they require, all without spending a single federal dollar."
