A Japanese artist is inviting the public to have an intimate view of Christopher Columbus high above a hectic intersection in midtown Manhattan.
Nishi, who is internationally known for transforming historical monuments by surrounding them with domestic spaces, said the aim of his piece is to put the viewer at eye level with the statue.
In response to criticism that the installation lacked any educational component, he said: "This is not a history project. It's important to understand that it's a contemporary art project, this artist's vision."
