    Wizards' building blocks

    The smile is somewhat crooked, so at times, John Wall looks like he's scowling. But the Wizards' 20-year-old point guard, team captain and future of the franchise looks forward to the days when he can smile a little more, and he doesn't think those days are as far away as fans might think.

    Pens' Cooke says he needs to change way he plays

    Penguins forward Matt Cooke apologized for an illegal hit that earned him the stiffest suspension of his NHL career, saying he needs to "change" the way he plays.

    Blackhawks Sharp sidelined with lower body injury

    Chicago Blackhawks leading scorer Patrick Sharp is expected to miss at least the next two weeks with an injured left knee.

    Capitals games, you may have noticed, have become quite a bit quieter. There are fewer sirens going off, fewer red lights flashing, fewer rafter-rattling celebrations by the Verizon Center crowd. For long stretches, it's so silent you can almost hear a puck drop.

    Cooke suspended through 1st round of NHL playoffs

    Penguins forward Matt Cooke was suspended for the remainder of the regular season and first round of the playoffs by the NHL for elbowing Ryan McDonagh of the New York Rangers in the head.
