    Wild acquire Bryzgalov, with Backstrom shut down

    The Minnesota Wild traded for goaltender Ilya Bryzgalov on Tuesday in conjunction with their decision to shut down ailing veteran Niklas Backstrom.

    Capitals forward Martin Erat, unhappy with his ice time, asked for a trade months ago. Less than 24 hours before the NHL's trade deadline, he finally got his wish.

    Caps' Dmitry Orlov suspended 2 games for hit on Schenn

    Following an afternoon hearing with the NHL's Department of Player Safety, Orlov was informed he will be suspended two games for his hit from behind on Flyers center Brayden Schenn 9:33 into the third period of the Capitals' 5-4 loss on Sunday.

    Rangers sign D Girardi; no deal yet with Callahan
