    White House condemns North Korean rocket launch

    The White House on Wednesday condemned North Korea's successful launch of a long-range rocket, deeming it a "highly provocative act" that threatens security in Asia and directly violates U.N. Security Council resolutions.

    Defying international concerns, North Korea fired a long-range rocket early Friday that splintered into pieces over the Yellow Sea about a minute after takeoff in an apparent failure, South Korean and U.S. officials said.
