The World Amateur Boxing Championships is the highest competition for boxing amateurs, organised by world's governing body AIBA, which stands for the Association International de Boxe Amateur. The first edition of the tournament took place in Havana, Cuba, from August 17–30, 1974. The number of weight categories was reduced from twelve to eleven in 2003 with the removal of the light middleweight division (−71 kg).
