Georgia Democrat yells at local doctor over health care

Tensions are running so high at town hall meetings that Rep. David Scott, a Georgia Democrat, yelled at a local doctor concerned about health care after mistaking him for an "astroturf" political operative looking for a fight.

Mr. Scott became visibly agitated when one of his constituents, a practicing doctor, asked a few questions about health care reform during a town hall meeting. The meeting was held to discuss a road project, but was opened up for questions near the end. That's when Dr. Brian Hill stood up to speak.

Dr. Hill asked Mr. Scott why he was going to vote for a health care plan similar to that implemented in Massachusetts "that is shown not to work" and if he supported a government-provided health care insurance option.

The congressman replied by accusing the doctor of "hijacking" his event.

"I'm listening to my constituents, OK?" Scott said, "These are people who live in the 13th Congressional district, who vote in this district. That’s who I’ve got to respond to … So what you’ve got to understand, those of you who are here, who have taken and came and hijacked this event we dealing with here, this is not a health care event."

"You chose to come and to do it on your own," he yelled. "Not a single one of you had the decency to call my office and set up for a meeting." He went on, in a threatening voice, "You want a meeting with me on health care, I'll give it to you!"

The outburst is yet another example of how confrontational town hall meetings have become over recent weeks, as constituents are becoming more forthright in asking their elected representatives challenging questions. These actions and other forms of protest have been encouraged by limited government advocacy groups opposed to the stimulus package, the Democrats favored health care reforms and other big spending government proposals.

The White House has labeled these efforts "astroturf", shorthand for fake grassroots. To combat these efforts, groups supporting these plans — such as Service Employees International Employees Union — have been appearing at these town halls as well, effectively creating local "showdowns" between opposing political powers.

Mr. Scott's public tirade against the doctor was filmed by WXIA-TV News, a local NBC affiliate that confirmed the doctor lived in the congressman's district in a follow-up interview.

The doctor told WXIA he wasn't working for any outside causes and had called Mr. Scott's office repeatedly, asking to speak with the congressman.

"I did not go to a meeting to create any problems, I went to the meeting to literally ask a question that I thought was very, very important for my patients," he said.

(NOTE: The WXIA video report of the event that includes the congressman's remarks and the post-interview with the doctor is available on their website here under the video titled "Congressman Scott's Town Hall." HotAir.com, a conservative-leaning blog, also has it embedded into their item about the town hall here. It is more easily accessed on HotAir.com)

The Democrats will soon be changing the name of their party to National Socialist American Workers Party. Free citizens fought and died to stop them 70 years ago, looks like we'll have to do it again.

Democrat make a living by demonizing and blaming everyone other than themselves. They cause all the problems and blame others. First it was the evil oil industry, then the evil financial industry, then the evil credit card industry, then the evil doctor, and now the evil insurance companies. The fact is that democrats are evil re-incarnate. And this is the most corrupt administration in American History. They seek internet informants, they require permanent use of all of the data on your computer if you try to access cars.gov; they dropped and investigation of ACORN that has been found guilty of fraud and forgery in 11 states, they dropped an investigation of the Maoist New Black Panthers for intimidating voters, an investigation where government had already received judgements, they fired the Inspector General the identified the possible mis-use of $850,000 in taxpayer funding to Americorp. It is time to demand answers. You leftwingers can send this to your Messiah because something sure smells fishy.

Wow! The democrats are really getting nasty and desperate. Guess they think when they get elected that they aren't accountable to anyone!

It is a sad day when the government in charge can get away with lableing citizens as products of anti Government groups or mobs just because they ask serious questions about a topic that they are afraid of. I speak with many citizens in fraturnal groups and not one is acting out on orders from any group. People that I have known for years that have never spoken up are not standing up on their own and asking the questions of those elected officials that are supposed to work for the citizens. I am amazed at the transormation within our population over the way the government is running wildly into the direction of Socialist ideas and spending more money than we can ever repay. How is this possible? Because too many believed in Hope and Change without understanding what the change really was. God Save Our Country!

Rep. David Scott, Georgia Democrat is a arrogant, elitist snob. He cares not one bit what his cons---uents want, and has the audicity to accuse citizens in his meetings as if they were criminals. Rep. David Scott, you just cost yourself THOUSANDS of votes for re-election. We will vote your arrogant snobbish butt out of office - you pig.

Looks like the congressman got snookered by his own party lying to him just before he left D.C., telling him it's all a set up, and phoney opposition.

Remember when we were protesting the Vietnam war? The protest went nowhere until that fateful period in Berkeley. Ordinairy citizens in business suits who were just watching the confrontation between the cops and radicals, found themselves being beaten and arrested. The TV news had a field day. Public opinion changed almost over night. That arrogant fool in the WH better wake up

Corrupt, incompetent, worthless Democrat politicians are lucky they are only being screamed at by their cons---uents. If they got what they truly deserved, they would be dragged out of office by their heels and horsewhipped on the Capitol Lawn. A morally and intellectually bankrupt party. Vote against each and ever Democrat in the next election. Destroy their party.

What an a$$hole. I don't normally stoop to using language of this sort, by here I think it is entirely appropriate.. Who in the world do these people think they are?? If an employee talked to his or her like that there would be an immediate firing in the making. These liberal crackpots of either party must be excised from the political process entirely. The Founding Fathers' way is the ONLY way that this great country can function, period.

What absolute filth this Leftist rat Congressman is. These corrupt elitist s--- need to be made to understand that they work for the people, not Queen Nancy or King Obummer. If they think they know what's best for us, and if they think that it's their right to take from hard working Americans and give to their whiny, free-loading, crybaby Socialist special interests, then perhaps it's time that people start thinking of revolution.

I am finally finished...I hate to admit that I voted for him as I am a life long democrat. This is not what I envisioned...who wants a single payer plan with no choices, no options, just another Nanny state, big government, socialist plan rammed down the throats of good Americans... I humbly and formally apologize to all for my actions. This is hard to say as I have been beat up recently by family and friends for my vote... I guess the only way to make things right is to call my congress representative about this debacle. I wonder if it would have been different with Clinton...sorry folks...

The only thing that democrats want at these town hall meetings is total agreement with their plans. theres no room for anyone to disagree with them. So to the obama and his democrats hi say HEIL HITLER!!!!!! or should I more correctly say HEIL OBAMA. Because pretty soon thats the kind of country we are going to be living in; and god help those dissenters and those whom speak out against them, for those it will be concentration camps and reeducation.

How dare you, Dr., stand up and question me, your elected representative, about a reform healthcare plan that I haven't even read and have no plans to read. I have received my orders from the "mafioso" and I may or may not be voting for, but I am in favor of, a socialized health care plan, just as my cons---uents are, however, they could not be here with us today. I am for a United States Socialist Republic too....USSR
