Your humble religion blogger has been very busy with front-page stories recently so has missed a few other items.
Members of the Presbyterian Church USA number 2.3 million, just a shade over the 2.2-million-member Episcopal Church, but they get one-tenth of the ink. That may be changing now that the Presbyterians have passed some interesting resolutions lately at their yearly General Assemblies.
Their most recent meeting in San Jose, Calif., last week made the biggest news by opening the door to gay clergy in the denomination. You can read the denomination's side of the story here. My question: Does the PCUSA wish to go the road of the Episcopal Church, which is involved in a zillion lawsuits these days involving churches that are fleeing the denomination because of their opposition to gay clergy?
