Sen. Hillary Clinton might be a former candidate returning to her day job this week, but she’s a winner at the bar.
Lotus Lounge has offered its tongue-in-cheek “Pick the Potus at Lotus” cocktail contest for a year now, and as the candidates dwindled the “Hillartini” remains the most popular drink.
“We didn’t plan it that way, I’m a Republican,” laughed Reese Gardner, vice president of operations for the Northwest D.C. bar — which also offers sushi.
“It really doesn’t have anything to do with the candidate it has everything to do with the cocktail,” he said. “Hillary is way ahead. I think there was a conspiracy because she got the best drink assigned to her name.”
Your humble blogger did a litle field research last night at Lotus, and indeed the Hillartini is a cosmopolitan.
“The comeback for Hillary starts here!” the flier advertising the five presidential drinks proclaims.
Also on the list, a sickeningly sweet “Obamarama,” concocted with vodka, coconut rum, orange juice, cranberry juice and pineapple juice. (“Keep his momentum going with this tropical cocktail!” the flier promotes.)
For presumptive Republican nominee Sen. John McCain, there’s the “Raising Arizona” - a “straight martini.” The promo for his beverage, clearly penned before the Democratic race ended was, “It’s inevitable that he wins the primaries but let’s drink anyways.”
Also on the menu was an “I heart Huckabee” - “Our Bombay passion for this passionate yet underdog candidate” and a “Hurricane Ron” for libertarian Republican Ron Paul — a Texas tea that wondered, “Why is he still here? Order his drink while you still can!”
I had some fun with the “Pick the Potus at Lotus” gimmick last year as well.
