United defender Marc Burch is to undergo ankle surgery and was added to the club's injury report on Tuesday. The left back, who was to miss Wednesday's match for yellow-card accumulation, will miss a few weeks after reportedly having scar tissue removed from his ankle. United is also currently without starting central defender Dejan Jakovic because of a bi-lateral sports hernia repair.
United moved to a four-man back line during Saturday's 2-2 tie against FC Dallas after playing much of the season in a 3-5-2 formation. Clyde Simms moved to central defense against Dallas in place of Jakovic. Avery John will most likely replace Burch on the left, with Simms and Julius James in the middle. Bryan Namoff will hold down his place on the right. David Habarugira, Devon McTavish and Rodney Wallace are also defensive options, while out-of-favor defender Greg Janicki appears unlikely to see the field any time soon.
