Ziegler, Hoff out of 800 final

← return to Blog of the Rings

For the first time, the U.S. won't be represented in the women's 800 freestyle final. Local swimmers Kate Ziegler (10th) and Katie Hoff (11th) failed to qualify during heat races tonight at the Water Cube. Ziegler said she felt great the first 100 meters and then felt things really slip away around the 500-meter mark. Ziegler is done for the Olympics -- she failed to qualify for the 400 free final earlier in the week. A complete class act, though. She spoke with a handful of reporters for more than four minutes. Hoff did not stop to speak with reporters. Her Olympics are over with a silver and two bronze medals.
