Consecutive loss No. 11 is in the books, a 5-4 setback to the Phillies in a game that was right there for the Nats to win.
led 4-1 after five innings and had multiple opportunities to add to the lead. But as we've seen far too often this season, this team simply can't execute certain fundamentals when it needs to, and that explains in large part how the Phillies stormed back to win (capped by Jayson Werth's tiebreaking homer off Steven Shell in the eighth).
I think Willie Harris summed up best how everyone in that clubhouse is feeling right now:
"I'm sick of saying it myself, but what else can you do but shake it off and try to get them tomorrow?"
In postgame roster news, first baseman Kory Casto was optioned to Columbus to make room for Anderson Hernandez, who will join the team tomorrow. Casto was mired in a real funk at the plate, going 1 for his last 17. His average was down to .193.
