Lo Duca, Lopez released

By Mark Zuckerman on July 31, 2008 into Chatter

Bunch of roster moves after the game tonight...

Paul Lo Duca, Felipe Lopez and Johnn Estrada

(who had been DFA'd last week) were all given their unconditional release.

Emilio Bonifacio, Elijah Dukes and Alberto Gonzalez will all be added to the roster tomorrow.

Plenty more in a little bit, once I file the story for tomorrow's paper...

Mark, Can Jimbo survive this colossal set of roster mistakes he made in 2008? How much money did he waste this year? How much development time to he take away from players who wanted to play. How much fan loyalty and team moral did he waste? Did Jimbo force Acta to play the dead weight in July? The record for July was 5 Wins and 18 Loses. That was with Estrada catching, Lopez playing most every day, Lo Duca Playing First base everyday........NOBODY WANTED THEM AND EVERYONE OF THE FANS AND PLAYERS KNEW IT......Players know when the best players are not playing..........Can someone at Get Tom to write about this with opinions please?

JayB and Mark, Adding to that, think of Dimitri Young and his $5M sitting and not playing, perhaps ever? If you look at all the salaries for 2008 it adds up to ~$55M. Guys released = ~$11.6M. And then add in Young's contract this year at ~$5M and we get ~$16.6M. In addition, Soriano's salary this year ~$14M. During the time that Soriano signed with Chicago, Jimbo said, "We wish Alfonso nothing but success, and we congratulate him on his contract. We just did not feel it was in the best interest of the team to go that many years and that many dollars. We felt those dollars were better utilized in other ways." Well apparently those dollars were utilized in the contracts for people who get to sit at home. Is it anything other than wasted money? Is this fiasco part of the plan? Can someone please write the article that needs to be written and hammer this organization? Adding Jimbo’s bad decisions to his off the field issues (Cordero, kickbacks, DUI, etc.), how does he still have a job?
