Milledge to DL; Bernadina up

The Nationals just placed outfielder Lastings Milledge on the 15-day DL with a right groin injury after he left tonight's game in the third inning and called up Roger Bernadina from Class AA Harrisburg. Bernadina left the Senators' game tonight in the fourth inning, presumably in preparation for the call-up, and will be available tomorrow.

I just wrote about Bernadina in my minor league notebook yesterday, which you can read here: http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2008/jun/27/bernadinas-next-step-might-be-the-majors/>

But even if Bernadina's having an impressive season for the Senators, this isn't good news for the major-league club. Milledge had showed signs of improvement, both offensively and defensively, lately, and while we don't know the exact nature of the injury, it's bad enough that the Nationals saw no way of avoiding DL time for Milledge. Groin injuries are notoriously slow to heal, as well, so the guess here is Milledge might be out for a while.
